At this stage we have had 5 rounds of the 2009 league season, and I think we can manage another 2 by the end of the year. I thought it might help the newer members if I stole the idea of power rankings from pdc so you can easily tell the players to beat. This is just for fun, so I'll just get right on with the results without any more explanation.

Our highest ranked player is Izzet Guildmage on 8.00 power points. He has racked up one each of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. A powerhouse in any format based on the classic cardpool. An unknown quantity in other formats.

Next is JMason on 6.40pp. A competitive player in all formats having placed top 5 in every league this year. Look to expoit your superior metagame knowledge if you want to defeat him.

Our third contender Wildman4420 loves to play and is leader on matches played. Points win prizes, and Wildman is on 5.60 power points. Play all your matches or the Wildman will always be ahead of you.

Mooncalf has 5.50 power points, has won the first 2 leagues outright, but has not been able to participate due to his studies. Now that he has completed his Doctoral thesis expect him to be back in the title race.

Adherent is a recent arrival and after just 2 leagues has 4.50 pp. This player is improving all the time.

From here the competitors are harder to separate. posting lots of matches is as likely to help your cause as won matches. Our first group are clustered between 2 and 2.6 power points. Timmyhill, Shabawoo and Finwe_de_van are all reliable players with one or more top 5 finishes.

Snapping at their heels are the 1.00 to 1.60 group of Maddog4000012, Mr Moto, Andymc1, Dr Zaius and Mfmage, any of who could rise quickly in the ranks if they dedicate themselves to getting their matches in.

Below here we have players without top 5 performances. There are two groups, first those who have played in more than one league and are therefore on 1.00 power points, Andrewtiu, Gatorg, Angali, Ecupiratefan69, Tstauffer, Amar.

Finally having only entered one league, Gromhan, Steelphoenix, Portiastext, Levmawr, Stealthbadger, Empty_one, Moromete, Pidave, Plasmablob, Snowstorm are all on only 0.33 power points due to the low participation penalty. We don't really know much about these guys yet. Are there any champions hiding in this group?

I hope that has given you an idea of the field. Right now the season winner is still undecided. The top four of JMason, Wildman, Izzet Guildmage and Mooncalf could all come top if they win the maximum 16 points from the next 2 leagues. Your matches will influence how this plays out. Take some scalps and you could move one of these guys up or down the ladder. Join us for the exciting finale to the years leagues.

Here’s a quick update on power ratings after round 2.6.

If you recall after round 2.5, Izzet Guildmage was top of the power table on 8 points, and winning round 2.6 has only solidified his position at the top with 8.5 power points. Participated in only 4 out of 6 rounds to date is the only thing that has kept him off number 1 overall in the player of the year race. Watch out everyone, he has entered round 2.7 and means business.

JMason and Mooncalf are both neck-and-neck on 6 power points, JMason having dropped by half a power point and Mooncalf has risen by the same amount. In this round these two are both expected to be on form and slugging it out at the top. Sadly for Mooncalf he is now mathematically eliminated from league player of the year, which is being fought out by Izzet Guildmage, JMason and our next power player, Wildman4420, trailing very closely on 5.67 power points. Wildman is one of only 4 players who have joined every round in the league year, and as usual can be expected to clock up plenty of points even when losing matches. Remember that playing all of your 20 matches each round is just as important as winning matches over a whole year.

The remaining established players have not managed to move up the power rankings, but we do have a crop of new members making a splash on the scene:

Dokho is currently heading up round 2.7, having a 60% win rate after 5 matches.

Necrosavant543 has a100% win rate after 2 matches.

With at least 6 players on form it promises to be a thrilling finale to the 2009 season.

Finally, make sure you checkout the forum FAQ where you can find out how league scoring works.
