CommonSense League Season 2011
Introduction
We're back again for a fourth series of the Common Sense Clan league. This year we will attempt to carry on the best points from last year while improving on the rest. The foundation is the full calendar you will see below. Notice that there are 6 rounds of 6 weeks each, as opposed to 8 rounds of 5 weeks last year. This should give us plenty of time to enjoy each format without feeling rushed, and plenty of time to build decks.
I've taken the liberty of selecting the format for 5 rounds, and left the 6th for the clan to decide. There are so many formats that are unpopular or unworkable, so I don't feel we lose too much by this. The formats I selected have all been popular in the past. You'll have 10 months to suggest the format for round 6, and the most popular suggestion will be picked.
The Prize Pool
20% of the entry fees for each round are reserved. The prize pool created helps us to do several things. Firstly we can award prizes for the winners of the league player of the year and most matches played winner. In addition we can offer rewards to clan members who give their time or services to clan activities. For instance we might pay your entry into a league round if you help organise the leagues or if you recruit an active player to the clan and leagues. It's no secret that your clan would like you all to participate more, and we would like in return to be able to reward you for your involvement, expect to see more about this from Andy soon.
The prize payout looks like this: 1st place in round: 40% of tix received 2nd place in round: 20% of tix received 3rd place in round: 10% of tix received 4th place in round: 5% of tix received 5th place in round: 5% of tix received Reserved: 20% of tix received
Where possible, extra mystery prizes will be added each round to provide incentives to sign up. I want everyone to be able to play 20 matches, so expect a prize to be unlocked when the magic number Eleven registered players is reached.
The Prize Pool Account
Sometimes the holder of the prize pool will be unavailable unexpectedly. To get around this I have opened a Magic online account named norfulthing which holds the prize pool, and can be accessed by the clan officers.

Common Rules Section
Each round is subject to the following common rules in addition to any special rules such as the format for the round:
Number of matches:Each player is allowed to play 20 matches in each round, which must be played and reported between the start and end date and times for the round.
Opponent restrictions:Each player is allowed to play each other player at most twice.
Opponent restrictions when participation is low:In weeks 1-3 you play as many matches per opponent as you like with on ly the first 2 counting and the rest are tie breakers.
If by week 4 it is not possible to score 20 matches then I raise the limit per opponent to 3. All recorded and new 3rd match tie breakers are promoted to scoring matches.
If by week 5 it is still not possible to score 20 matches then I raise the limit per opponent to 4. All recorded and new 4th match tie breakers are promoted to scoring matches.
Tiebreaker matches:You may play any number of tiebreaker matches in addition to the normal 2 per player, 20 per round limit. Tie breaker matches score +1 point for a win, -1 point for a loss, with a minimum of zero. Tie breaker points will be used to decide the winner when there is a tie in normal points
You are able to play mixed matches with one player earning normal points and the other earning tiebreaker points. This enables players wanting to complete 20 matches to do so when there aren't enough opponents.
Match settings:Matches are best 2 of 3, with maximum time (90 minutes). All matches must be watchable.
Card restrictions:All cards must have a common printing in the format being played. Proxies may be used. Cranial Plating is banned in all pauper formats.
Reporting match results:Either
give the result to JMason, Wildman4420 or AndyMC1, who will update the round result post for you,
or
post your result on the forum thread for the round where it will be seen by the league organiser. As a suggestion to keep things tidy, you can make a single results post, adding new results to the same post by editing. An admin will strikeout your original results to indicate they have been copied to the main resiults post.
Please post results in the form winning player name, games won, games lost, losing player name, e.g. izzet guildmage 2-1 jmason.
Round Scoring:Your score has two parts, the total number of games won and the total number of games lost. Players are ranked by descending order of games won, then within that by ascending order of games lost and finally by ascending number of matches played. In this way a score of 20-2 would beat a score of 20-3, but they would both lose to 21-10. A person with fewer matches than another on the same points will place higher.
Season Scoring:Season points are earned by finishing in the top 8 of each round. 8 points are earned for first place, then 7 for second and so on down to 1 point for eighth.
Disputes:In the unlikely event of disputes, they will be decided by the current league organiser, JMason. Should a mutually satisfactory resolution not be possible then the clan captains will make a final decision. Anyone involved in a dispute will not be allowed to rule on the resolution.
Penalties:Anyone who has not paid their entry fee for a round will be ineligible for prizes, and any prize that would have been won will pass down to the next eligible player. This includes any event tickets, other prize picks, and season points.
Rookie year(s):Your rookie career ends after the first complete season starting from the first round you enter, i.e. can cover 2 seasons.
Penalties:Anyone who has not paid their entry fee for a round will be ineligible for prizes, and any prize that would have been won will pass down to the next eligible player. This includes any event tickets, other prize picks, and season points.

You use your pool as though it was real boosters you had opened, but you must provide the actual cards yourself (we will attempt to assist any participant who isn't able to get the cards themselves).
